Bootcamp for Beginners: 6 Things You Should Know

The thought of attending a bootcamp can be rather intimidating, especially if you have never been on one before. Generally consisting of intense work outs and some serious sweat, bootcamps are designed to help you lose weight and/or improve your fitness with a dramatic lifestyle overhaul. They can bring about fantastic results in a short space of time, but if you are new to bootcamps here are some things to know beforehand.

1. Don't think bootcamp, think outdoor adventure

When most people hear the word "bootcamp" this is the first thing that comes to mind.

Yes, it may sound intimidating at first, especially if Major Payne is present. However, I guarantee if you give yourself the opportunity to explore the outside, you'll be amazed to see what different types of landscapes you come across.

2. Bring a friend

Bootcamps are a great place to bring friends, especially if you're nervous about coming alone. At least one of your friends have also thought about the idea of attending, but had no idea anyone else was interested.. that's where you come in my friend. Bringing a friend gives you accountability for your workout and also someone to laugh with once your done with your set of bodyweight walking lunges.

3. Stick with it

Bootcamps are an intense workout designed to achieve a maximum effort out of its participants. And giving maximum effort for an extended period of time requires a certain level of commitment. Being able to "stick with it" not only lets you reap the physical benefits of performing the workout, but you also get the confidence of being able to accomplish many great feats. Think about it, if you're able to withstand a 6..8.. or even 12 week bootcamp, that's pretty badass. Consistency is Key!

4. Eat appropriately

When you are working out so hard it is important to alter your diet to reflect that, it is important not to eat too much or too little during your boot camp as your body will need the energy. A good breakfast before a morning bootcamp would consist of some type of carbohydrate and protein combination, such as, oatmeal and a fresh fruit. Make sure you are eating the right kinds of foods that will be most beneficial to your body and perhaps most important of all – remember to drink lots of water.

5. It won't be easy, but challenging

It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it. You are more than likely to struggle at the beginning and may not always be able to keep up, but it’s important to stick with it and remember that you get out what you put in. A bootcamp is a challenging thirty minute to one hour class designed to push you past your limits. Try your best and you are sure to start feeling and seeing the difference soon enough.

6. Give yourself a round of applause

You’ve completed the bootcamp, you’ve seen great results and feel fitter and happier than ever before, so don’t quit now. It’s just as important to keep up the good work after your boot camp, otherwise all your hard work so far goes to waste. This doesn’t mean doing the same intensive workouts everyday as you were, but making a conscious effort to get more active and eat better so you can maintain your results.
